Forensic DNA Testing
Identity Genetics, Inc. offers two types of forensic DNA services: criminal databasing and analysis of crime scene samples. Criminal databasing is available to law enforcement agencies that wish to obtain DNA profiles of convicted felons. IGI uses the 13 CODIS loci established by the FBI for identification.
IGI is also certified to produce DNA fingerprints that may be entered into the National DNA Indexing System. DNA profiles may be obtained from many crime scene samples. A single drop of blood may be sufficient to produce a DNA profile that can be compared with a sample taken from a suspect or victim. Crime scene sample analysis is available to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, as well as to private parties. This service is particularly valuable to defense attorneys, because defendants are entitled to have samples tested by an independent laboratory.
